Rest In Peace Harry
Harry L. Strickland born 3/18/1915 died 8/3/2015. Harry was born in Forest Hills, New York to Harry C. Strickland and Nettie DeGrasse Strickland and had a brother Dale Strickland. The family moved to California in 1923 and lived in No. Hollywood until coming to Burbank in 1938.
Harry joined the Burbank Police force from 1940 – 1969 and WW11 interrupted his employment from 1943 – 1945 to join the U.S. Navy and serve in the So. Pacific as a radioman. After he left the Police Dept. he went to work as a Criminal Courts Coordinator for the Superior Court in Los Angeles for 12 years.
He and his wife founded the Burbank Historical Society and Gordon R. Howard Museum in Izay Park in Burbank. Harry was the work horse at the museum until his late 90’s.
He leaves his wife of 64 years Mary Jane Strickland, daughter Penny Rivera (Tony), granddaughter Michelle Rey (Peter), 3 great grandchildren Shaye and Robert Herriford and Jesse Rey, niece Katie Brown, nephews Randy, Tim, Kevin, Shawn and Joel Strickland.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Burbank Historical Society or a favorite charity.
A memorial will be held at the Burbank Historical Society’s Gordon R. Howard Museum on Saturday August 15th at 11:00am.
